Turkey berry dhal curry/Sundaikkai Sambar
Turkey berry from this name don’t feel bad it’s an familiar vegetable for south indians…. sundaikkai it’s English name Turkey berry….Turkey berry is good medicinal plant..Turkey Berry plant grows in our house garden and also in hilly areas. The Turkey Berry that grows in hilly areas has a more bitter taste than that of the berries that are grown in our house garden.We can use consume the fresh Turkey Berries plucked from the plant and also we can consume it in the dried form. It is better to have the fresh Turkey Berry than the dried one. It has the potential to kill the germs and also acts as a medicine for cold, and also helps in problems related to the chest and stomach. And people who have diarrhea, stomach ache, piles, tuberculosis should use Turkey berry as a part of their food. And taking Turkey Berry regularly will help in strengthening the nerves. 


Turkey berry is widely used for culinary and medicinal purposes. These berries are either used as fresh berries or dried berries Turkey berry is an ancient herb and is used in many Ayurvedic treatments. It has sedative, diuretic and digestive properties. It is used in curing coughs. It is a good tonic for liver. The unripe fruits are used to strengthen immunity power and also reduce body heat.Turkey berries are used in traditional medicines to cure night blindness. It strengthens the nerves in the eyes and provides a clear vision.

Take equal quantities of dried turkey berry along with the dried Indian gooseberry or amla, fenugreek seeds, Ajwain seeds, dry ginger powder, cumin seeds, dried curry leaves, shells of pomegranate & soft seeds of mango fruit. Make a powder with all these ingredients. Add 1 teaspoonful of this powder in 1 cup of warm milk. This herbal drink is very good for your health and it supports a healthy immune system.

Here I tried this Fresh Turkey berry with Lentils… My mom used to do this Turkey berry Sambar, she’ll use this berry instead of Brinjal,  a new flavor with new taste….

Ingredients:
Thoor dhal- 1 cup
Pearl onoin- 4 os
Garlic- 4-5 pods
Hing
Turkey berry – 1cup
Drumstick- 1 cup
Tamarind- 1 inch
Tomato- 1
Sambar powder– 2 tsp
Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
Salt
Oil- 4 tsp
Coriander leaves


For tempering:
Oil- 2 tsp
Onion- 2 tsp
Red chillie- 2 nos
Mustard- 1 tsp
Methi- 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves


Ingredients & i boiled the dhal with onion,garlic & hing

Slit the turkey berries

Heat the pan with oil add the drumstick

Add in the Turkey berries
Add in Sambar powder & tumeric powder with some salt
Add a cup of water and let them boil for 10 mins in medium flame
Add in the Boiled dhal, Tomatoes and tamarind water
Boil it for few mins 
Tempering items & Coriander leaves
Throw in the Coriander leaves
Heat the separate pan with oil add the tempering items and add it to the sambar
