Idichakka Thooran/Tender Jackfruit fry, its a simple recipe, dont know how many of you familiar with this dish… Typical Kerala dish…

I Got this tender jackfruit in our vacation trip, tried to hunt a matured jackfruit luckily i got both of them… coming few post are related to jackfruit only, so no need to bother anymore “what i’ll do with whole jackfruit”, i was also in the same list but now i cleared the way, how to use the whole jackfruit with good yummy simple recipes, to make our home happy… this recipe i prepared with very tender and fresh jackfruit, you can see in the first preparation picture to how it looks inside..I have a recipe of Chakka Prathaman/Chakka varrati/Jackfruit Halwa, this recipe can preserve the jackfruit for the whole year..

Cutting Jackfruit is really a tough task, but the result was soo yummy, Grease your palm and knife with coconut oil to avoid the stickiness of gum ooze out from the fruit, .Lets see the recipe first and Do tyr and let me know how it turns for you…

Preparation time- 30 mins
Cooking Time- 30 mins
Serves- 5-6

Tender Jackfruit/Pacha Chakka- 250 gms
Turmeric- 1/4 tsp
Salt- as per taste

To Temper:
Coconut oil- 3 tsp
Mustard- 1/2 tsp
Urad dhal- 1/2 tsp
Curry Leaves- 1 spring

To Grind:
Coconut- 1/2 cup
Shallots/Pearl onion/Sambar Onion- 4-5 nos
Red chillie-4-5 nos
Curry leaves-       1 spring
Jeera- 1 tsp
Garlic- 2 pods


* Here i start with cleaning the jackfruit, Cut a circle with 1 inch thickness, Slit them to two semi circles..

* Deeply peel of the Skin as shown, remove the center stem, chop them into bit sized pieces, and put them in a bowl of water..

* Take the chopped jackfruit in a pressure cooker with turmeric powder and salt, cook this for 2 whistles, do not over cook this, release the pressure and drain the water in a Colander/Strainer..

* Take the drained jackfruit in a mixer, pulse them for a second, to mince it..

* Take all the ingredients to grind {Coconut, Onion, Garlic, Chillie, Curry leaves and Jeera} in a mixer, Grind them Coarsely and set them aside, heat the kadai with coconut oil..

* Temper it with Mustard and Urad dhal, Now add in the grind-ed Masala to the oil..

* Saute the masal till they remove the raw smell.. add in the minced jackfruit and curry leaves to the kadai..

* Stir them well to spread the masala, and cook it for 3-4 mins in low- medium flame ..

* Cleaning the Tender Jackfruit is quite a difficult task, after cleaning your hands will stick, grease your hands with oil to remove the stickiness
* Use coconut oil for this thooran, thats the real taste hidden in it..
* Only pressure it for 2 whistles, do not over cook it..

All done and ready to serve..
