Paneer Kolhapuri

Panner Kolhapuri masala, spiced curry from kolhapur region.. Can prepare Chicken, veg, mutton in the same masala, the masala ground with dried coconut, Spices, chillie… yum yum…
First time we had the preparation from a Punjabi restaurant, its a finger licking gravy.. i prepare it as a dry side dish.. can add some water and cook for few mins to get gravy.. all kolhapur cuisines are most delicious.. this rich gravy gives a good combo of r roti and parathas…this is different from usual panner butter masala.. lets Go with the Recipe…




Panner Kolhapuri

 Prep Time: 20 mins    |  Cook time: 30 mins   |  Serves: 4



Panner 200gms
Onion 2 medium sized
Tomato  3 medium sized
Green chillie 1
Oil 2-3 tsp
Ginger Garlic Paste 1 tsp
Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
Graham masala 1/2 tsp
Salt as per taste
Coriander Leaves 1 spring




To Grind

Dried Coconut 1/4 cup
Sesame 1 tsp
Bay Leaf 1 nos
Cumin/Jeera 1 tsp
Fennel  1 tsp
Pepper 1 tsp
Red chillie 3-4
Cloves 2 nos
Cardamon 2 nos
Cinnamon Stick 1 inch
Coriander Seeds 1 tsp


  1.   Chop the onions finely, Puree the Tomatoes and set aside, Heat the kadai, dry Roast the ingredients under the grind table… make it cool.
     2.  Grind it to a coarse paste… Cube the panner or cut into small pieces.
     3. Heat the pan with 1 tsp of oil , fry the panner to light brown color.. don’t deep fry the panner..
    4. Heat the oil, sauté the onions to transparent color, add the Ginger Garlic paste and sauté for a while.. add in the chopped Green chillies and fry add in the Tomato puree to it..
    5. Cover and cook it in medium flame till they separate the oil.. add in the Turmeric powder, Graham masala to the mix.
    6. Add the Grinded masala to it, if you want a gravy version then add some water to it… add in the fried panner and cook them for few mins.. All done, Garnish with Coriander Leaves and serve with hot roti’s or parathas


  • Don’t deep fry the Panner, it may go rubbery in texture..
  • You can replace panner with vegetable, chicken, mutton..
