Drumstick sambar, Most familiar in South India, Cooking Drumstick with Tamarind water and mashed toor dhal.. with some masala.. is really a good curry to pipe this with hot steamed Idli’s..

Drumstick Sambar/Sambar
Prep Time: 20 mins | Cook time: 30 mins | Serves: 2
Ingredients
Toor dhal | 1/4 cup |
Pearl Onion | 5-6 |
Garlic | 3-4 pods |
Drumstick | 1 nos |
Sambar | 1 tsp |
Turmeric Powder | 1/4 tsp |
Onion | 1 medium sizzed |
Tomato | 1 nos |
Tamarind Water | 1/2 cup |
Hing | 1/2 tsp |
Coriander Leaves | 2 spring |
Ingredients
Oil | 1 tsp |
Mustard | 1/2 tsp |
Fenugreek seeds/Methi seeds | 1/4 tsp |
Curry Leaves | 1 spring |
Method
1. Take Toor dhal, Pearl Onion, Garlic, Turmeric Powder, Hing, Sambar Powder in a pressure cooker and cook this for 2-3 whistles
2. Cho the onion, tomatoes, Cut the Drumstick into 1 inch pieces.. squeeze out the tamarind and set them aside.. in a pan boil a cup of water with the drumstick and the chopped onion..
3. Allow this to boil, once the drumstick cooked well add in the Chopped tomatoes and some salt to it..
3. Add in the Tamarind water and boiled dhal to the pan.. cook this for few mins n medium flame…
4. Add a handful of chopped coriander to the sambar..and switch off the flame..
5. Heat a kadai with oil and temper it with mustard, methi, red chillie and curry leaves, add in the tempered item to the sambar..
Notes:
- You can add another vegetables of your choice too..
- Once you add the tempered items to the sambar.. immediately close the sambar with a proper lid, so that the flavor and real smell will not escape.. keep closed for at least 10 mins..
- Cook the dhal and mash it well…
- Adjust the spice level by adding more sambar powder… we usually take not much spices in sambar..
