Sambar Sadham

Sambar Sadham is one of the listed variety rice in south Indian.. Cooked rice and dhal with lot of vegetables, tamarind and some spicy masala, flavored with ghee..Sambar is one of the  Common south india curry..
Here its a very easy one pot  meal.. such a mouth melting and tempting combo its a best go any kind of side dishes.. also here i choose a very very easy and less effort side dishes.. this is handy preparation for a busy day.. preparing rice, curry, kootu or poriyal separately takes fe more time.. here u can directly skip the curry part and every thing comes together.. adding generous amount of ghee gives a good flavor to the pot meal.. here you go with this good easy preparation on..

Sambar Sadham

Prep Time: 20 mins    |  Cook time: 25-30mins    |  Serves: 2

Ingredients

Rice  1.5 cups
Thoor Dhal 3/4 cup
Salt as per taste
Hing 1/2 tsp


Ingredients for Tempering and for the masala part

Vegetables 1 cup
Tomato 1  nos
Tamarind paste 1 tsp
Oil 2 tsp
Ghee 1 tsp
Mustard 1/2 tsp
Methi/Fenugreek seeds 1/2 tsp
Red chillie 2 nos
Curry Leaves 1 spring
Sambar Powder 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder 1/4 tsp
Salt As per taste
Coriander Leaves  1 spring

 

   Method

  1. Take the Rice and dhal in a mixing bowl wash them in running water and pressure cook it with salt and hing.. In the mean time chop all veg and set aside

   2. Once they release the pressure, mash it with a paddle or masher, heat a kadai with oil and ghee..
 3. Temper it with mustard, methi seeds, curry leaves and red billie in it.. now add in all the vegetables to it..
  3. Saute this for few min and add in the salt, sambar powder, turmeric powder and mx them well in medium flame..add in a cup of water to and boil this till the vegetables half cooked..
  4. Take the tamarind paste to it, add in the tomato and cook till the tomatoes gets soft..
  5. Now add in the cooked vegetables to the rice dhal mix.. and mash them we’ll..

  Notes


    • Usually sambar sadham is a kind of mashed rice dhal with vegetables… in this method, i cooked the vegetables separately to avoid mushing of the vegetables.
    • Here i used 2 nos of red chillie, its bit more spicy.. if you want to reduce the spice level, then reduce it to one or half.. i added the red chillie for its flavor.
    • Can use Tamarind paste or tamarind water to it..
