 Banana Stem, in my last post i explained about cleaning of banana stem, this is a follow up post to cover the pervious one.. very interesting stir fry recipe, who wants to taste a rich taste can add more grated coconut to the masala..

Banana stem are completely water sacked part of the tree, this helps in may ways, for kidney stone this is the best medicine.. so many needs for this vegetable, mostly people they know to clean and cook will buy this vegetable, i know this from my childhood, mom and grandma does this often, this recipe contains less oil too, healthy stir fry which contains very low crap, without guilt can share this with hot stem rice over the bed of sambar or any other gravy.. hope this post helps you guys, see you all in a next interesting easy recipe.. 57th day of B365..

Vazhai Thandu Poriyal/Stir Fried Banana Stem

Prep Time: 20-30 mins | Cook time: 20 mins | Serves: 2


Vazhai Thandu/Banana Stem 1.5 cups chopped
Oil 2 tsp
Mustard 1/2 tsp
Urad dhal 1/2 tsp
Channa Dhal 1/2 tsp
Onion a handful chopped
Curry Leaves 2-3 springs
Salt to taste
Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp


Ingredients To Grind

Coconut 1/2 cup
Jeera 1 tsp
Pearl onion 3-4 nos
Garlic 2 pods(optional)
Curry Leaves 2 spring
Green chilly 3-4 nos




Cleaned Banana stem.. (How to clean Banana Stem)
Heat a pan with oil, temper with mustard, urad dhal, channa dhal, let them pop, on they done add in the chopped onion.. 
Add some curry leaves, squeeze the banana stem from the water and add it to the pan.. stir fry them for 8- 10 mins in medium flame, by covering the pan with a lid.. 
Sprinkle some salt and Turmeric powder to the pan.. 
Followed by the grounded masala(Coconut, Jeera, curry leaves, onion, garlic), stir them well, if need sprinkle some water, again cover and cook this for 10 more mins to remove the raw smell of masala. 
Banana Stem cooks very fast than other vegetable.. no need to add water while cooking.. stir fry the poriyal and serve with any combo of gravy with rice..
