Gooseberry Thokku/Nellikaai Thokku, form regular Gooseberry pickle this those is quite different in taste.. Indian Gooseberries are the best one to add in regular diet.. Very first time when i tried this thokku we are flat to this finger licking thokku..

Few months back, one of my Aunt shared this recipe in Fb, as she mentioned this is such a tasty one.. normally gooseberries are consumed as juice or pickles.. this thokku is a different variation, spiciness tanginess of gooseberry blends to create a different taste here.. earlier i shared my Gooseberry Juice in my page, And this post is a delayed one, this long break makes me feel very bad and missed blogging.. to kick start my routine it takes so many days.. and finally I’m happy to start my work.. hope this post will be useful, Eat healthy and stay fit..

Gooseberry Thokku/Nellikaai Thokku/நெல்லிக்காய் தொக்கு

Ingredients

Gooseberry/Nellikaai 8-10 nos
Coconut 3 tsp
Chillie Powder 2 tsp
Coriander Powder 3tsp
Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp
Pearl Onion 15 nos
Hing/Perrungayam 1/2 tsp
Oil 2-3 tsp
Mustard 1/2 tsp
Curry Leaves 1 spring
Salt to taste

Method

Wash and clean the Gooseberry, steam them in Idli steamer, i used my Electric cooker.. Steam the Gooseberries till you see the cracks.. 
 
 
Make them cool, De-seed the gooseberries.. 
 
 
Grind them to a coarse texture without adding any water.. 
 
 
Take 3-4 pearl onion, grated coconut in a pan.. dry roast them for few mins.. 
 
 
Once the Coconut color changes, add in Chillie Powder, Coriander Powder, Hing/Perrungayam, Turmeric Powder
 
 
Fry the masala along with the coconut for 2-3 mins.. Make the masala cool, grind this to a fine paste in a mixer.. 
 
 
Heat a pan with Oil, Splutter the mustard.. 
 
 
Add the remaining chopped pearl onion and fry.. 
 
 
Add some curry leaves and fry along with the onion.. 
 
 
Followed by the grounded paste.. 
 
 
Add some salt and fry the masala till they splits oil.. make sure the flame is in low to medium.. if need sprinkle some water and cook the masala.. 
 
 
Now you can see the Masala color which was done.. and add the grounded Gooseberry.. 
 
 
Give a good mix, allow this to cook for 4-5 mins in low flame.. 
 
 
 

Notes:

    • You can use the steamed water in some curries. 
    • instead of steaming the gooseberry you can boil in water too, i skipped it and steamed the gooseberry for its nutritious value.. 
    • Can refrigerate this for a week to 10 days..
